Read for the Record

read for the record 1

Read! Read! Read! and just maybe something beautiful will happen.  On Thursday, October 25th, the Charlottesville Hospital Education Program participated in Jumpstart: Read for the Record, a national reading program that promotes “building early literacy and language skills” with children.  This year’s literature selection was Maybe Something Beautiful by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell, a story of how art transformed a little girl’s neighborhood.  HEP teachers, consultants, volunteers and Briar the book fairy, from UVA Children’s Hospital, shared the story with one hundred and forty-eight children and adults. Each student was given a copy of this colorful and inspiring story.  One non-verbal student who was having difficulty focusing that morning quieted as the teacher began reading the story. Clearly, the beauty that happened that day was the joy that reading and listening to a good book brings to all.

There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world.  Love of books is the best of all.
